13 Aug 25 Prophecies That Prove the Bible is True (2 Peter 1:16-21) Sermon Notes
God speaking is great
2 Peter 1:16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.
- The Myths of Teachers – human fiction, not real or reality
- Peter is still alive, and the critics are claiming Jesus is a myth
- The Mount of Transfiguration – Matthew 17, Mark 9, Luke 9 w/Moses & Elijah
- Eyewitness testimony is the strongest
- Motive? Peter knows he is going to die for Jesus soon & is publicly continuing
God speaking through Scripture is greater
2 Peter 1:19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

What are the odds of 8 prophecies being fulfilled?
Suppose that we take 1017 silver dollars and lay them on the face of Texas. They will cover all of the state two feet deep. Now mark one of these silver dollars and stir the whole mass thoroughly, all over the state. Blindfold a man and tell him that he can travel as far as he wishes, but he must pick up one silver dollar and say that this is the right one. What chance would he have of getting the right one? Just the same chance that the prophets would have had of writing these eight prophecies and having them all come true in any one man, from their day to the present time, providing they wrote using their own wisdom.
