02 Jul Taco Bell Performance Review
Romans 14:4-6 – Who are you to pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.
I’ve been blessed to know and work alongside a lot of incredible pastors and Christian leaders, and it really bothers me when people come into our church and start badmouthing other pastors.
They think they’re trying to build common ground by talking badly about another church but to me, it’s like, “This guy is my friend, he texted me earlier today, and he said he’s praying for us.” As Christians, we need to look at other Christian churches and church leaders and see how we can love and learn from them.
Because people are all different, there’s a need for different churches who do things differently. A different type of worship music, a different way of baptizing, the translation of the Bible that you use, or the type of sermon you preach doesn’t make you a bad person. People can differ on all of these and still love Jesus.
If God accepts someone, we need to accept them too. If God is ok with how they’re practicing their faith, we need to be ok with it too. Ultimately, they serve the Lord, not us, so God will judge us and them for their choices and our attitudes.
Every person with a job, at one point or another, has probably received a performance review. How many of you would feel really weird if someone walked into your place of work and gave you a performance review?
Let’s say you work at Taco Bell and some guy walks in and doesn’t like his chalupa, so he calls you over and has a chart and a list and says it’s time for your performance review. You’re thinking “Hey, I don’t work for you, so you can’t give me a performance review.”
As Christians, we work for God, so He is ultimately the one who judges. Not you, not me, not us.
In what areas have you judged others or had others judge you that you need to either repent of or forgive?
