10 Dec Virtual Reality is a Counterfeit
Revelation 4:1 – After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”
As I’ve preached through about half the Bible verse-by-verse over the past 25+ years, I’ve started to see a theme emerge – whatever God creates, Satan counterfeits. This even plays out in the emerging technology of the metaverse and virtual reality.
Facebook recently changed its name to Meta, meaning they’re banking everything on a new reality of a world that’s real but not physical. Sound familiar? This is the counterfeit of the spiritual realm. You and I are supposed to be filled with the Spirit and connected to God in the unseen realm and, through technology, there is an effort to replace this with living in the metaverse according to virtual reality.
God is gracious and can help us find creative ways to use this technology for Bible teaching, but the world is still working to replace Heaven with technology. Technology is driving towards not the worship of God but the worship of evil. In the metaverse, technology will allow people to do horrific criminal activity and perversion.
Everything we do is spiritual, connected to the unseen realm, and in the presence of God. We tend to think of the natural and what is seen rather than the supernatural and what is unseen.
What are some ways you can see in this world that what God creates, Satan counterfeits?
