Do You Know the One Word That Changes Everything You Do?

Do You Know the One Word That Changes Everything You Do?

2 Peter 1:1 – Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

Think for a moment all the titles you hold.

Consider family titles like mother/father, or sister/brother.

Consider work titles like CEO, manager, or janitor.

Consider church titles like pastor, leader, or member.

Add to those any other titles that apply to you such as friend, coach, mentor, student, teacher, volunteer, etc.

The main difference between a Christian and non-Christian holding the same title and operating in the same role is that the Christian believes that no matter who they are serving that they are ultimately serving Jesus Christ. For the Christian, serving is a high honor because Jesus set the example for us of serving others by serving us.

For this reason, even though Peter has the prestigious title of “apostle”, he precedes that title and role with the role of “servant”. This example is one for every Christian to follow. No matter what title we have, job we hold, or role we fulfill it needs to be preceded with the heartfelt commitment of being a “servant”. In this way, every Christian is to be a servant, and the only difference is how we serve.

Is there any title or role in your life where you need to consciously remind yourself that you are first and foremost a servant of and like Jesus Christ?
