God’s Answer to Babel is Jesus Christ

God’s Answer to Babel is Jesus Christ

Genesis 11:4 – Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.”

All throughout the Bible are instances of the Enemy confusing and counterfeiting the things that God creates. In Genesis 11, the people of Babel wanted to create a tower and one language to make their name great, not God’s. In turn, God scattered them and confused their languages so they couldn’t band together and create even more great evil.

The following are the things that God creates and the way that Satan counterfeits those things as it relates to Babel (Babylon) in Genesis 11:

God Creates
New Jerusalem
Made by God
God’s name is great
God comes down humbly
God saves and provides for us
Ruled by Christ

Satan Counterfeits
Babylon
Made by us
Our name is great
We go up proudly
We save and provide for ourselves
Ruled by Antichrist

Though Satan tries to counterfeit and pervert that which God has made, God’s ultimate answer to Babel is His Son, Jesus Christ.

The people of Babel wanted to build a tower to move upwards and be the highest authority. But we don’t go up, our God comes down. Jesus Christ came down from His high place in Heaven to a lowly place on earth. The only place Jesus was lifted high while on earth was onto a cross, but He then ascended back into Heaven to His high place seated on a throne.

The Babylonians wanted to stay together and have one common language through which to create great pride and evil, but in Acts 1:8, Jesus countered this, sending His people to witness “to the ends of the earth”. When the Holy Spirit came down at Pentecost, it foreshadowed the New Jerusalem in God’s Kingdom, which is what the people of Babel were attempting to create. Though man tries to create greatness for himself, God will ultimately get the final word and the final judgment.

What were the Babylonians putting their faith and hope in other than God? Were they any different than the typical non-Christian in our day who believes that globalism can reverse the curse?
