God uniquely and intentionally created our bodies for sex and sexual pleasure. God made us male and female and brought us together for marriage, and our marriage covenant was con- summated with the passion and pleasure of sex. God was not shocked that our naked first parents had sex, and He did not send an angel to put a wing between them and shut it down. Sex was His divine will and design—perfect, holy, and before sin and the Fall. God called all this married sexuality “very good” as our first parents were “not ashamed” before sin entered the world. This gift of heterosexual, married sex was given by God for six reasons:
- Pleasure (Song of Songs)
- Children (Genesis 1:28)
- Oneness (Genesis 2:24)
- Knowledge (Genesis 4:1)
- Protection (1 Corinthians 7:2–5)
- Comfort (2 Samuel 12:24)
Do you see sex as a gift? If so, pray with your spouse or pray for your future spouse that this remains the case in your marriage.
