John 8:46 – Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?
Have you ever watched one of those tell-all shows from a celebrity, looked at the “Stars – They’re Just Like Us!” sections of a magazine, or gotten hooked on the latest “reality” TV show? In our culture, we tend to think those who tell how badly they’ve messed up are the most trustworthy and honest people. After all, we’ve all messed up, so we see people as more relatable who are actually willing to admit to that.
What if I told you there’s one person who was a public figure and can honestly, truly, earnestly say that they’re perfect. That they’ve never had an impure thought. Never a bad motive, a sinful word, or a hurtful action towards another person. It’d be hard to believe, right?
There is one man who can truly claim to be perfect. His name is Jesus.
Jesus came down from Heaven to walk the earth, fully God and fully man, but, unlike us, He never sinned. Not once. Not even a “white lie” or a single “bad word” when he stubbed His toe.
This is hard for our sinful, human brains to wrap our heads around but the way that He lived His life was what human life was intended to look like before Genesis 3, the serpent, and the first sin by Adam and Eve.
And because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, on the other side of this earthly life is Heaven, where, in our resurrected bodies, we’ll be able to leave this sinful life and live a sinless life just like God intended it. Until then, we do our best to live by Jesus’ example while living in this broken, fallen, messed up world.
How can you practically follow Jesus’ example as a role model for living a sinless life?
