05 Aug The Couple That Serves Together Stays Together
Romans 16:3-5 – Greet Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks but all the churches of the Gentiles give thanks as well. Greet also the church in their house.
In this long list of names Paul mentions in Romans 16, we come to a couple named Prisca and Aquila, a married couple who he says are “fellow workers in Christ Jesus”.
How many of you are married? Here’s the key to your marriage: Serve Jesus together. I may have just fixed your entire marriage. You’re welcome.
This couple is one of the most inspiring in the entire New Testament. They work together, they’re a ministry couple. For some families and couples, their “thing” is whatever sport their child plays or whatever their hobby or favorite activity is. For this couple, their “thing” is ministry.
Sometimes in the Bible, one is listed first, and sometimes the other is listed first. Theologians fight over this as to who is the leader but to me, I think it just means they’re equally yoked, equally helpful, and they’re a powerhouse ministry couple.
This is my hope, prayer, and goal for my wife Grace and me. When our five kids were little, it was tough for us to do ministry together because when you have five kids, you’re a little busy. Now that they’re a bit older, we get to do more life and ministry together and it’s the best.
As humans, we’re naturally, innately born with selfishness but if we serve our church, we’re more likely to learn how to serve each other. The couple that serves together stays together.
Do you know an inspiring ministry couple like this? Honor them for their service.
