06 Aug Who is the Owner and Who is the Steward of Your Life?
1 Peter 4:10-11 – As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
When you look at all the days you have, dollars you spend, words you speak, possessions you own, and relationships you have, there are two important questions to answer.
- Who is the owner to whom this belongs?
- Who is the steward that the owner has entrusted management of their legal possession to?
For example, your car belongs to you but is stewarded by your mechanic, your money belongs to you but is stewarded by your bank, and your retirement account belongs to you but is stewarded by your investment broker.
This leads to the following vital question, “Who is the owner and who is the steward of your entire life? There are four possible answers to that question:
- Godless: I am the owner and steward of my life
- Selfish Christian: I am the owner and God is the steward of my life
- Lazy Christian: God is the owner and steward of my life
- Godly: God is the owner and I am the steward of my life
Think of your time, money, hobbies, body, relationships, abilities, and possessions etc. Honestly and truly, based upon the decisions you make, which of the four categories most accurately describes how you have lived to this point? What changes need to be made to be a better steward of what God owns?
